What is distressing, not only to Fr. Maciel’s victims and to those who believe in their honesty, but to those who dispassionately read the Vatican statement, is how the Founder’s followers continue to seek loopholes in order to absolve their leader. Every imaginable interpretation is being attempted in an effort to let Fr. Maciel off the Vatican hook. To what extremes will the Legion and its leaders- supposedly loyal servants of the Holy See- go in diluting and debilitating an official statement of that same Holy See?
TO BE OR NOT TO BE, DECEIVED?
Have you, faithful, believing, and orthodox Catholic been deceived by the Legion of Christ and Regnum Christi’s well-oiled propaganda machine?
THAT IS THE QUESTION.
“Whether ’tis nobler in the mind to consider Fr. Maciel a Christ-like figure, or to stop, reflect and question amidst this sea of confusion, and by discerning end the charade?”

The recent media reports of the sentencing of Marcial Maciel decreed by the Sacred Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, and approved by Benedict XVI, comes after a more than ten year investigation into charges of sexual abuse and absolutio complicis* against Maciel.
The investigation also looked into various practices of the Legion of Christ, founded by Maciel in 1941, and the Regnum Christi, the Legion’s lay branch, which violate Canon Law and a true catholic understanding of freedom of conscience.
ReGAIN applauds this initial action of the Catholic Church as a true and just vindication of so many of Maciel’s victims. We pray that with this vindication, these men may finally be able to repair some of the unspeakable damage done to their lives and their souls by the crimes of Marcial Maciel.
In the wake of this sentence by the Sacred Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, we at ReGAIN renew our total committment to helping ex members of the Legion of Christ and the Regnum Christi to understand, to heal, and to rebuild their lives.
